The Best Fall Activities for Dogs in Virginia Beach

4 min read

Fall is my favorite time of year to explore Virginia Beach with dogs. The weather is cooler, the summer crowds have thinned out, and there are plenty of dog-friendly places to visit around the city. From pumpkin patches and local parks to beach walks and outdoor dining, autumn offers plenty of opportunities to make memories with your pup.

Here are some of my favorite dog-friendly fall activities in Virginia Beach.

Visit Hunt Club Farm

Nothing says fall quite like pumpkins, autumn decorations, and farm visits.

Hunt Club Farm is one of Virginia Beach's most popular seasonal destinations and offers plenty of fall-themed fun. Visitors can enjoy the Petting Farm, farm market, seasonal displays, and plenty of opportunities for festive photos.

According to the farm's pet policy, well-trained dogs are welcome at the Petting Farm and Farm Market when kept on a non-retractable leash. Dogs are not permitted on the TreeWalk Adventure, and only service dogs are allowed during Haunted Hunt Club Farm and certain special events.

A visit to Hunt Club Farm can be a fun way to enjoy the season while creating memorable photos with your dog surrounded by pumpkins and fall decorations.

Pro Tip: Always review current pet policies (https://www.huntclubfarm.com/faq) before visiting and bring waste bags to help keep the farm clean for everyone.

Create Your Own Fall Pet Photo Session

You don't need a professional photographer to capture great fall memories with your dog.

Virginia Beach offers plenty of beautiful seasonal backdrops including colorful leaves, pumpkins, front porch decorations, local parks, and wooded walking trails.

Using your phone and a few simple props, you can create adorable seasonal photos right at home or during your daily walk. A pumpkin toy, fall bandana, pile of leaves, or decorated front porch can instantly create a festive autumn scene.

The best photos often happen naturally when your dog is simply having fun and exploring.

Pro Tip: Bring treats and use burst mode on your phone for the best chance at capturing those perfect dog expressions.

Relax at Wasserhund Brewing Company

Relax at Wasserhund Brewing Company

Looking for a dog-friendly spot to enjoy the beautiful fall weather?

Wasserhund Brewing Company welcomes dogs at its outdoor patio seating areas, making it a popular destination for Virginia Beach dog owners. The brewery's patio is designed with dogs in mind and typically provides water bowls to help keep pups comfortable while you relax and enjoy a meal or drink. Dogs are welcome at all Virginia Beach locations.

The cooler temperatures of fall make patio outings much more enjoyable than during the peak summer heat. After a walk at the Oceanfront or Mount Trashmore Park, stopping by a dog-friendly patio is a great way to spend time with your pup.

Pro Tip: The outdoor patio area can be somewhat limited in size, so if you're bringing multiple dogs or visiting with a larger group, consider visiting during less busy hours.

Explore Mount Trashmore Park

Located in the heart of Virginia Beach, Mount Trashmore Park is one of the city's most recognizable outdoor spaces. Originally created from a former landfill, the park now offers over 165 acres of green space, walking paths, hills, lakes, and open areas perfect for leashed dogs.

The cooler fall temperatures make longer walks much more enjoyable, and the park provides plenty of opportunities for exercise, sniffing adventures, and exploring new surroundings.

Pro Tip: Bring a travel water bowl and extra water, especially if your dog enjoys extended walks around the park.

Enjoy a Fall Beach Walk at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront

After Labor Day, the Virginia Beach Oceanfront becomes one of my favorite places to walk dogs. The cooler temperatures make beach walks much more comfortable, and the crowds are significantly smaller than during the busy summer season.

Many seasonal restrictions relax during the fall months, allowing dogs greater access to enjoy the sand, sea breeze, and ocean views. Whether you're taking a morning stroll along the shoreline or enjoying a peaceful sunset walk, the beach feels completely different this time of year.

The Virginia Beach Oceanfront is a great place to enjoy a walk with your dog any time of year, but fall is easily my favorite season. Cooler temperatures, lighter crowds, and beautiful ocean views make it much more enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.

Virginia Beach's dog rules change depending on the season. During the off-season, before 6:00 p.m. on the Friday before Memorial Day and after 6:00 p.m. on Labor Day, dogs are welcome on the public beaches and boardwalk at any time. During the summer season, dogs are not permitted on the main resort beach from 1st Street to 42nd Street, and access to other public beaches is generally limited to before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. Dogs on

the beach must be leashed or under the control of their owner at all times. Whether you're enjoying a peaceful sunrise walk, an evening stroll along the shoreline, or simply watching the waves together, the Oceanfront offers one of the most scenic dog-friendly experiences in Virginia Beach.

Pro Tip: Check seasonal beach regulations before visiting, especially during the summer months when access hours and locations for dogs may vary.

Fall is one of the best seasons to get outside and create lasting memories with your dog in Virginia Beach. Whether you're visiting pumpkin patches, exploring Mount Trashmore Park, enjoying a dog-friendly patio, taking seasonal photos, or walking along the Oceanfront, there's no shortage of adventures to enjoy together. If your schedule gets busy this fall, Dog Sitting Virginia Beach is here to help with reliable dog walking, pet sitting, drop-in visits, and dog boarding services, so your pup can continue enjoying plenty of exercise, attention, and outdoor fun throughout the season.
